Devyn: I love these potted plants from Hero Arts! These are great for many different types of cards, such as encouragement, house warming or as simple as a hello card. I started with a Gina K Designs Kraft cardstock base and die cut Lawn Fawn Quilted Backdrop out of My Favorite Things Chocolate Brown for a wallpaper look. I like the look of my plant shelves card so much I put the floors in this one as well! The floor is Penny Black Wood Floors on My Favorite Things Natural and Black Licorice for the baseboard so it would stand out. Since these plants have fine detail, I didn’t shade or any of that. I used E35, G43, G24 YR27 and YR23. I finished off by stamping the sentiment from the set on Kraft and die cut it out with Lawn Fawn Small Dotted Rectangle Stackables.
Lori: Hero Arts always make such fun stamps! I love this set of potted plants. I began with a Gina K Designs Slate cardstock base, then added a mat cut with My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX Set #2 in My Favorite Things Blue Breeze cardstock. Next, I cut a layer with Altenew Cross Stitch Canvas in My Favorite Things Grout Gray. I Cut the little picture frame with Lawn Fawn Mini Picture Frames in a scrap of black cardstock and stamped the middle and the plants on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80#. I stamped the sentiment with Versafine Black Onyx and the plants in Gina K Designs Jet Black Amalgam ink. I colored the plants and pots with these Copic Markers: BG09, BG13, BG15, BG93, BG96, BG99, E07, E09, E11, E13, E15, E25, E27, E40, E42, G03, G05, YG6 &, YG63
Lori: One thing I miss about living in California is the state flower. Sometimes there’s a little pop of orange here or there, and other times, there are entire fields of bright sunshine. This stamp set is an excellent ode to my home state. I began with a Gina K Designs Tangerine Twist cardstock base, and stamped on a piece of neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80# cardstock cut with a My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX set #1 die. I stamped the poppies and sentiment with Gina K Designs Jet Black Amalgam ink and colored with Copic markers Y18, YR16, YR07, G21, and G24.
Devyn: I love this poppy set from Concord & 9th! Super easy to follow with their brochures from their website. I used My Favorite Things Black Licorice for my cardstock base and stamped The Ton Polka Dot Background with Hero Arts Unicorn Pigment ink. I used the die set to cut the poppy, stem, and leaves from My Favorite Things Poppy for the poppy, Green Room for the stem, and Black Licorice for the center. To finish off, I heat embossed ‘much love’ from the stamp set with Nuvo Classic Gold Detail Embossing Powder.
Lori: I love the look of coloring in Copic markers on Kraft cardstock. This stamp is perfect for that. I stamped the background with Gina K Designs Jet Black Amalgam ink on a 5¼’ x 4” piece of Gina K Designs Kraft cardstock and colored with the following Copic markers: BG93, G21, YG91, RV32, R83, V22, Y02, and YR21. I glued this piece to a GKD Kraft cardstock base, then cut my new favorite “Thanks” die from CZ Designs and Simon Says Stamp in Kraft background and GKD Innocent Pink.
Devyn: This background stamp is so much fun! This is great for a ton of different occasions and can be used in many different ways. I started with a Gina K Designs Slate cardstock base and heat embossed it Altenew Golden Peach Embossing powder. The die cut is Simon Says Stamp and CZ Design Thanks layered die the thanks backdrop is Slate and I brought back the DCWV Shimmer Neutrals mat stack for the ‘thanks’.
Devyn: These Altenew arty layering stamps are super fun! At first, these didn’t make sense to me and then I looked them up and I realized they’re meant to be a bit off. I started with a Gina K Designs Innocent Pink cardstock base. The flowers are Sunray, Limeade, Cotton Candy, and Firefly Altenew Dye Inks. The ‘Thanks a Bunch’ sentiment is from Altenew Label Love English inked with Altenew Aqualicious dye ink.
Lori: I love the way this layers freeform, making it a breeze to stamp. I decided to keep this card simple, inspired by one of the samples that comes in the set. I used Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80# for the stamped layer, and used Altenew ink colors: Jet Black, Firefly, Wisteria, and Hydrangea. The sentiment is from Altenew Label Love Italian and means “Thanks a lot” or “A thousand thank yous.” I added a few little Indigo Eclipse Nuvo Dream Drops. I think that it looks more purple than Fairy Wings. The colors of these new iridescent versions of Nuvo drops are not as intense as some of the images online appear. They’re very muted colors. I added the stamped layer to a Gina K Designs Wild Lilac cardstock base. Super simple and quick!
Devyn: Like I said in yesterday’s post, I haven’t really played with watercolor much but this would make a great introduction to watercolors. First, I heated embossed My Favorite Things Painted Poppies with Nuvo Glacier White Fine Detail on Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor. I used Altenew watercolor set, Midnight Violet for the background, Crimson for the poppy, and Frayed leaf for the stem. I added ‘Deepest Sympathy’ from My Favorite Things Deepest Sympathy Sentiment set with Gina K Designs Jet Black Amalgam Ink. I trimmed it down and added it to Gina K Designs Slate cardstock base.
Lori: This was our second card swap challenge card for the month, and another watercolor! I started out using Ranger Tim Holtz Distress Cardstock and clear heat embossed the Hero Arts wood mounted Map of America stamp. I used Tim Holtz Distress Inks to watercolor this time in these colors: Gathered twigs, Antique Linen, Old Paper, Tea Dye, Peeled Paint, Pumice Stone, Stormy Sky, and Broken China. The sentiment is from Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous – Sayings set, and fussy cut by Devyn (She loves fussy cutting! Me, not so much!) I added the watercolor piece to a base made from Gina K Designs Slate cardstock and adhered the sentiment.
Lori: I am so inexperienced with watercolors! But I recently purchased the Altenew watercolor set and thought this would be a good opportunity to try these. I started with the watercolor layer using Ranger’s Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock taped to a board. I lightly drew a pencil mark in the rough area I wanted to watercolor the background. From the Altenew watercolors, I used Pink Diamond, Puffy Heart & Purple Wine. I got the cardstock super wet, and tried to lay a lot of color down, randomly splashing outside the pencil lines in a couple places. I added a little gold metallic watercolor randomly over the top, then applied a crinkled up piece of plastic wrap & left that on overnight. It appears as if the pink soaked in too much for the lines to show, so I’ll add more color if I use this technique again. Once it was dry, I inked up the Inkadinkado wood mounted stamp #91034, Time Flies Collage, in Gina K Designs Jet Black AMalgam ink and stamped that right over my pink rectangle watercolored area. I carefully erased the pencil lines, then trimmed it down a little. I used the Tim Holtz Stampers Anonymous Sayings set for the sentiment & fussy cut it out (Actually, Devyn is my awesome fussy cutter!). I built the card with a Gina K Designs Innocent Pink base, made a layer with My Favorite Things Ripe Raspberry mat, then one from the DCWV Metallics mat stack in rose gold, then added the watercolor layer and sentiment.
Devyn: I haven’t really played with watercolor much, but after watching this video on how to do this I understood it a bit better. As I have mentioned A LOT on our blog I LOVE shimmery things, I used a shimmery watercolor palate on Tim Holtz Distress Watercolor Cardstock. I drench the whole piece of watercolor cardstock with water and very generously painted the blue for the sky and green for grass, I probably did a few coats to get it to look like this. I put a piece of plastic wrap over and didn’t touch it for 2 days(its meant to be overnight, but life happened and didn’t get the chance to touch it.) The cosmo is from Altenew Stunning Cosmos, for the stem I used Altenew dye inks Forest Glade and Evergreen for the stem, Pinkalicious and Razzleberry for the flower, Fresh Lemon and Honey Drizzle for the middle. The die cut ‘hello’ with Simply Hello from Altenew with Gina K Designs Black Onyx. I trimmed down the watercolor and did a black mat with Black Onyx and my base is Gina K Designs Bubblegum Pink.
D: One of our fellow card swap partners recently lost her beloved Silky, Sparky. We had a variety of ideas but wanted to get this card out in a timely manner and its best to keep it simple. We were already cutting paw prints for another card on our Silhouette file #78094 called 10 Nested Dog Paw cut file from Sandi Idleman. I die cut the backdrop from Avery Elle Quilted Frame on Gina K Designs Warm Cocoa. For the sentiment, I heat embossed ‘Best Friends Will Always Be Remembered’ from My Favorite Things Critter Condolences with Gina K Designs Champagne embossing powder on Gina K Designs Black Onyx.
Lori: So sad that we needed to make more pet sympathy cards already! I made this one for my daughter Tawny’s friend who had recently lost her Golden Retriever. I love using the sketch pen, and this worked like a charm the first time around! I used Neenah Desert Storm Environment 100# cardstock for the base and Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80# for the sketch/cut layer. The Dog Sketch file is from Cali Arroyo – Silhouette Design Store file ID #45970. I just used a sentiment idea inspired from a few others I found on the Internet and sketched with a sketch font – I can’t remember which font it was, forgot to write it down, and can’t find the file I used to make the card – which all tells you how my day is going! I used the gold pen – normally, I would NOT use anything with even a tiny bit of glitter on a sympathy card, but this just worked with the Golden. Anyway, the paws were cut out using the 10 Nested Dog Paw cut file from Sandi Idleman Design Store ID #78094.
Lori: I knew the moment I saw these two die sets that my first card with them would be a shaker card! This was only the second shaker card I’ve made, and I learned a lot! Like – wait until the glue is dry before adding the shaker filling! Anyway, I started with a My Favorite Things Pineapple cardstock base, Then cut the Outside In Stitched Flower shape in My Favorite Things Blue Breeze and a piece of craft foam. I added the flower middle/face, cut from Gina K Designs Tangerine Twist with My Favorite Things Stitched Flower Frame. The leaves are My Favorite Things Limelight, and the grass is in My Favorite Things Gumdrop Green with MFT Grassy Edges. I love this sentiment from Whipper Snapper Designs, stamped in Versafine Onyx Black.
Devyn: I love these new dies from Lawn Fawn, they’re the cutest and can be used in many different ways. My base is My Favorite Things Sour Apple and I used the background stamp My Favorite Things Itsy Bitsy Polka Dot background in Sour Apple dye ink for a tone on tone look. I die cut the flower using My Favorite Things Orange Fizz for the flower center, the leaves and stem are My Favorite Things Gumdrop Green and the flower is My Favorite Things Periwinkle. I thought this would make a great Get well card, so I used Pretty Pink Posh Get Well Soon die in My Favorite Things Lemon Drop.
Lori: I’m still on a Spring Fling, so shades of green and purple with a yellow seemed to be perfect! I Started with a My Favorite Things Limelight cardstock base, then lined the card with MFT Periwinkle. I added the Concord & 9th December Stitched Border die alone the top and bottom edges. I stamped the Wreath Turnabout with Altenew Bamboo, Warm Sunshine, Parrot, and Lavender Fields, then the sentiment with Midnight Violet and cut it with Lawn Fawn Outside In Stitched Square Stackables.
Devyn: I love Concord & 9th’s Turnabouts, they’re super versatile and great for any occasion. I started with a Gina K Designs Turquoise Sea cardstock base. I die cut Lawn Fawn Small Dotted Square Stackables on Gina K Designs Wild Dandelion. I stamped the turnabout using Blu Raspberry, Cotton Candy, Lemon Drop, and Green Room using My Favorite Things Hybrid Ink. To finish off I stamped the sentiment in the center with My Favorite Things Poppy Hybrid.
Devyn: I really enjoy flower layering stamps, they’re really easy to use and have great results! I started with a Gina K Designs Innocent Pink cardstock base. These Sunny Studios Stitched Ovals make great layers and I die cut that on Gina K Designs Sweet Corn and later the stamped layer. For flowers, I used Tickled Pink, Razzleberry, and Orange Zest dye ink and the leaf is Sour Apple. I finished by stamping the sentiment from My Favorite Things Anything but Basic Encouragement on Sweet Corn and Jet Black Amalgam ink.
Lori: Sketched look layering stamps are so easy to work with! And MFT has little tabs on the clear stamps to show exactly where to place each later. They also have diagrams on the stamp sheet to show which pieces layer together. This new set pairs beautifully with the Anything But Basic Encouragement sentiment set. I used My Favorite Things Cement Gray for a base, then used MFT Stitched Mod Rectangle STAX with Summer Splash cardstock. The stamped later is on Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80#. I used these Altenew ink colors: Citrus Burst, Honey Drizzle, Dew Drops, Sea Breeze, Sweet Leaf, Silver Lake, and Charcoal Suit for the sentiment. Masking was the hardest part, but otherwise this was pretty quick and easy.
