Lori: I love the versatility of this stamp, but wish it came with more than book related sentiments! I borrowed one from the Altenew Leaf Canopy set instead. Used two shades of gray and a black mat for this. On the lighter gray, I masked the stamp area, then stamped the background with Altenew Pinstripe background stamp. Then I stamped the Book Club stamp in the masked area in the same color – Altenew Charcoal Suit. I colored the flowers lightly with colored pencils and smoothed with gamsol.
Devyn: I’m still not comfortable with coloring big spaces, so I think when you need a really simple card, I feel heat embossing is the way to go. My cardstock base is Gina K Designs Kraft and I heat embossed it with Nuvo Glacier White Fine Detail. It was challenging to find a sentiment to fit in that circle, this ‘Thinking of you’ from Justrite Large Fancy Sentiments fit just right I stamped that in Jet Black Amalgam ink.
Devyn: I love this Best in Show stamp set because of the dog in this set is Eddie! I started with a My Favorite Things Sno Cone cardstock base. I die cut out pieces from My Favorite Things Spring Scene from random scraps from my scrap pile. I colored the Papillon from MFT Best in Show stamp set with Copic markers. I used E23, E25, W1 for his body and W10 for his nose. I finished off with stamping the sentiment from the stamp set. Eddie was a stubborn model so I used this photo to color him accurately.
Lori: I love that these two stamp sets have so many different dog breeds covered. The closest I could find for my little Enzo was the Canine Companions set. I think I made the stamp look pretty close! I used My Favorite Things Scene Builder from Stacey Yacula (I really love her illustrations!) and stamped Enzo on the hill, then colored the scene with Copic markers. I cut a piece of Gina K Designs Wild Dandelion with Avery Elle Oval Burst then added the stamped layer and oval frame to a base made with Gina K Designs Grass Green. I used MFT New Best Friend for the sentiment on Gina K Designs Grass Green and cut that with one of the MFT Fishtail Flag Trio dies.
Lori: Creating a card based on a background stamp was a little challenging today. I’ve not tried a card from that angle before. I started too simple at first, just adding the background stamp – The Ton’s Delicate Grid – to a base and adding the sentiment, but it needed more. I cut down the grid piece to a layer with Lawn Fawn Dotted Rectangles die, then added another layer between with the same die in the medium gray, and finally loved the result! Three shades of gray cardstock – Gina K Designs Soft Stone and Stormy Sky plus a base from My Favorite Things Steel Gray. I used Altenew Cloudy Night ink for the grid stamp. The Hello Die is from Hero Arts.
Devyn: It’s been really busy here and I still wanted to make a card. I love this method of just a background stamp and a die, it makes it super simple. I used Gina K Designs Innocent Pink for a card base and used the background stamp My Favorite Things All Lined Up in Gina K Turquoise Sea Dye ink. I die cut Hero Arts Hello Message Fancy Die in Wild Dandelion.
Devyn: This is a fun die you can do with many great different occasions. I used My Favorite Things Blu Rasberry for the base. I die cut out the Detailed Blooms with Ripe Raspberry and Pretty Pink Posh Thinking Of You Script with Neenah Metallic Chalice Silver.
Lori: I started with a base made from Gina K Designs Edible Eggplant, then attached 2 of the Detailed Blooms corner dies in Neenah Metallic Chalice Silver. I added the accents in Neenah Metallic Champagne Pearl, and cut the Sentiment – Pretty Pink Posh ‘Thinking of You’ Script die from the Neenah Metallic Chalice Silver. Done in just a few minutes! (Actually, this took most of a day because I only managed a few minutes here & there!)
Lori: I am a little intimidated by layering dies. They seem easy, but it’s a challenge to select the right color combination, then get them layered just right. This little daffodil set is pretty simple, so it worked fairly well. I paired this with the Altenew Fine Frames cover die set. The sentiments are Altenew’s Thank You Builder.
Devyn: I haven’t really tried layered dies like this but this was pretty easy. I started with a Gina K Kraft cardstock base. Next, I used Gina K Wild Dandelion, Sweet Corn, Lemon Drop, and Sweet Mango for the daffodil and for the stem Grass Green and Jelly Bean Green. To frame it off I used Sunny Studio Fancy Frame Ovals in the Grass Green and Lemon Drop. I finished off with Altenew Thank You Builder in Jet Black Amalgam.
Devyn: The Ton make really pretty full card front flowers, these are perfect for simple and a lot of different occasions. I’m not quite at the stage where I can fully Copic color these flowers but I really enjoy heat embossing these! My base is Gina K Designs Innocent pink. I heat embossed the flower and sentiment with Nuvo Crushed Mulberry on Gina K Ivory. I adhered that to the Innocent Pink and done! These are extremely easy!
Lori: Sometimes, the message needs to stand out more than the image. My favorite cards to make are to encourage dear friends through whatever they may be going through. So this time, the sentiment is the focal point. I love the muted flower behind the message. I used Gina K Designs Ivory layering weight cardstock, and stamped in Gina K Designs Jet Black Amalgam ink. I colored with Copic markers: W0, W2, W4, G16 & G19. I added this to a Gina K Designs Slate cardstock base. I heat embossed the Sentiment using Nuvo Fine Detail Glacier White embossing powder on Slate cardstock.
Lori: Dealing with chronic illness makes it hard to commit to long-term projects. That’s why it’s HUGE for us to make cards 100 days in a row!! We’re very proud of ourselves and each other! My card is a tribute to our 100th day – a super festive congrats card! The base is My Favorite Things Pineapple cardstock. The oval frame is cut with Avery Elle Oval Burst from Concord & 9th Lime Glitter Cardstock. The ‘Congrats’ die is from My Favorite Things, cut from Concord & 9th Copper Glitter Cardstock. The patterned paper is a random scrap. Avery Elle Oval Burst & MFT Congrats
Devyn: All I can say is YAY!!! We made it to our 100th day for this year’s challenge! My mom and I have learned so much this year doing our cards daily. I have used techniques I haven’t used before and/or improving in my stamping/coloring skills. Since then I have really learned how to use turnabouts, I thought this was the perfect turnabout for this card! I started with a Gina K Designs Sweet Mango Base. I used Concord & 9th Polka Dot Turnabout, I used Gina K Designs dye inks, Wild Dandelion, Peach Bellini, Sweet Mango, and Turquoise sea. I stamped the sentiment on top of the dots with Honeybee Hooray for you in Gina K Jet Black Amalgam ink. To finish, I used my scraps to die cut the balloons from My Favorite Things.
Devyn: I love the dies in this kit, you can use these in so many different cards. I think that cities are beautiful at night and I was wanting to do something shimmery. My base is Gina K Designs In The Navy, I die cut the 2 buildings in Black Onyx, and the stones Slate for the back and the front pebbles for a frosty or a just rained look DCWV Shimmer Neutrals in Black. I clear heat embossed the sentiment from the set ‘Grazie (thank you in Italian)’ with Wow Super Fine Clear embossing powder. I basically went crazy and used Nuvo Midas Touch for the sky for a stary look.
Lori: I love the Italian theme of the April 2019 My Monthly Hero kit. This set is such a great value, filled with so many goodies! I struggled with this card, though, as doing a daylight version was more of a challenge than I expected. Getting the bricks that are die cut out of the buildings was a bit awkward to work with, so I used colored pencil under them. The windows themselves, I tried filling with Glossy Accents, but they were so little I made more of a mess than anything! Overall, I’m happy with the way it turned out. I used a lot of My Favorite Things cardstock colors, and stamped the clouds with Hero Arts Unicorn White and the sentiments and birds with Versafine Onyx Black. I colored the gondolier with copic markers, then later realized I should have used a fine tip sharpie! (Devyn’s idea!)
This die is great for its flexibility with several of the Hero Arts background stamps. We each used a different stamp with it and hope they come out with more!
Lori: I love this die with the new Venetian Neighborhood cling background stamp. Devyn and I have both been working on learning Italian, and this was a great opportunity to add little sentiments in Italian under the door flaps. I used a Neenah Environments Desert Storm 100# base and stamped on the front with Gina K Designs Jet Black Amalgam ink. I cut with the die, lining up the doorways. I colored with Prismacolor pencils & smoothed with gamsol. Next time I’ll color first for a smoother look. I then glued an inside with Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80#, and wrote my little Italian messages and drawings with a fine point black marker.
Devyn: This set is really unique and I hope they keep releasing stamps that work with the Hero Arts Peek A Boo Door Die. First, I started with a Gina K Designs Tomato Soup for a card base. Next, I heat embossed Hero Arts Mail Jumble with Nuvo Blue Odyssey on Gina K Designs Ivory. I die cut the mail with the peek a boo die and wrote little messages in my hopefully legible handwriting. It looks complicated but it really wasn’t, it was super easy and really fun little project.
Devyn: Another just a few minutes card (I really should time it to see exactly how long!)! This card was super simple and you just need a few minutes. The base is Gina K Designs Turquoise Sea. I heat embossed the flower and the sentiment together with Purple Haze Nuvo embossing powder. The sentiment is from Newton’s Nook Thankful Thoughts. That’s it!
Lori: I love coloring this flower! It’s got so much depth to it & it’s soothing to color. A dear friend of mine was really hurting and I wanted to give her a paper hug, and this pretty flower & sentiment seemed just right. I started with a Gina K Designs Wild Lilac base, and used Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 80# cut with My Favorite Things A2 Stitched Rectangle STAX set #2 for the stamped & colored layer. I stamped with Gina K Designs Jet Black Amalgam ink and colored with Copic markers V12, V15 & V17. The Sentiment is from the My Favorite Things Anything but Basic Encouragement set.
